Weather

Early November is the junction of autumn and winter. Weather in Taipei at this time is comfortably cool but not chill, with perhaps a little bit rain. The temperature is about 20 degrees Celsius in the daytime and 15 degrees at night. A light jacket will be a good advice if you would like to walk around outdoors in the evening.

The conference is open to all registered participants.

The official language is English.

Currency, Banking, and Tipping

New Taiwan Dollars (NT$) from the Bank of Taiwan is the national currency, although many major hotels, restaurants, department stores, retail outlets, and supermarkets may accept international credit cards, including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Diners Club.  Visitors should exchange their travelers’ checks or cash for Taiwanese currency in the banks, whose business hours are from 9 am to 3:30 pm and standardized throughout the country. Banking service is also available at the airports.  Tipping is optional.  It is customary to tip hotel porters.  A 10% service charge is usually included in restaurant bills and no additional tipping is necessary.
